How To Make Your Own Wedding Invitations

By Molly Hinges

While you may not be a craft goddess, you can certainly make your own wedding invitations. Many couples look into this option because they think that it will be cheaper than the regular printed invitations, but this is not necessarily true. Depending on the materials that you use, the price may be the same.

The thought that goes into them is considered as very special in home made invitations.

Get the Materials

Going to your local arts and crafts store can be a truly wonderful time, but only if you have a little bit of an idea of what you need. Otherwise, you will be wandering around aimlessly and looking at things to buy all the while having a lot of expense come in. You will then end up buying things that you will never use.

Here's the way to shop smart (even if you don't have a plan). The first thing you need to figure out is how many invitations you need to make. If you have a lot of invites to make, then this will help you choose the materials that won't cost a lot. What are the some of the colors that you would like to see on your invites? And if there's a theme that you're considering, then think about that too.

When you get to the store, go through the aisles and pick up the things that you might need for your invitations. Right now, the materials you will get should be enough to make a sample of your invite. Before you buy a whole bunch of materials, you first want to see if you can make something.

What to Do When You Get Home

With your little bag of crafts, you can start to make your sample invitations. These can be printed by a computer so you don't have to worry about the words yet so just make the rest of the invite. A lot of the time, what you plan to do doesn't quite work out, or it takes too much time and materials. Just try a bunch of things, and when you find something that looks great, write down everything that you used to make it. When you go back to the store, this will be the list that you will have with you.

It's not necessary for the wedding invitations you make to be more complicated than using scissors and some glue. How about trying different colored ribbons and some shells? Use thick card stock paper for a background color and place a white sheet of paper where the wording will go.

And don't worry so much about being perfect. You may want your invitations to look great but at the same time, you them to still seem like you made them. Don't worry about it if something is slightly askew.
